Cheers to the Unsubscribes!

I work at creating content that is relevant, resonates and gives value – like my Daily Espressos. There’s research and thought put into each piece before the ‘publish’ button is even clicked.

So I remember when I became a featured writer for the Entrepreneurial Women’s Magazine fairly early in my blog writing career.

After my first submission was posted, my email list started to grow from all the  opt-ins. Within a month I had almost doubled my email list. (much to my delight!) Then this happened…

Unsubscribes.

Why the hell would they unsubscribe? Was the content not relevant? Was I not engaging enough? Was the subject matter boring? Dated? Or?

Then came the big AHA!

I had to remind myself that:

1. their unsubscribe is not a personal attack. They need to do what works best for them and I need to do what works best for me and keep doing the work I love.

2. When someone unsubscribes, it opens up space for someone who truly wants what I have to offer.

3. I’m being true to myself. I’m not just trying to be popular and people please. I’m being who I am, like it or leave it.

So cheers to all the unsubscribes, un-likes and unfollows! You’re what makes my community a tribe!
