10 Ways to Develop a Magnetic Sales Personality – Part I
You have the same tools, products and support staff just like the other sales guy in your office but somehow he always seems to ‘attract’ clients.
A lucky few are born with the natural ability (aka ‘charisma’) that makes people want to buy whatever it is they’re selling – be it a product, a system or an idea. People not only feel drawn to them… they want to do business with them. So what about the rest of us?
Is there hope for us? Absolutely!
Here are the first five of ten ‘tools’ that you can add to your sales kit to develop your own ‘magnetic’ sales personality.
.Like any skill set, it takes practice and persistence to acquire. Surprisingly, these are simple, straightforward tips but few take the time to master them.
People are attracted to others who seem to be regular folks just like them. Establish rapport and begin a relationship by being cordial (look it up if you don’t know the meaning!) and genuinely interested in the other person. Stop talking about yourself! Ask them questions about their company, their job, their industry, even their family and hobbies.
People are attracted to people who listen. Not the ‘listen for the break to start talking about me’ listening. There will be plenty of time for you to talk. The more things they tell you, the better chance of you have of doing business with them. (or realizing they’re not a match for you.)
People do business with people they like. Avoid being rude, crude, gruff, or obnoxious. Be the professional that you are. ‘Mirroring’ another person’s behaviour can have some major repercussions is it’s not part of who you are so behave in a way that makes you likable.
People are attracted to people who have things in common with them. The goal here is to discover at least one thing you have in common with the other person – kids, hiking, music, pets – that will enable you to build and grow the connection.
People are attracted to people who are busy and therefore, successful. The general assumption is if you’re not busy, you’re not successful. ‘Busy’ attracts. Think about the last time you walked through a market and one stall had a line up, and other didn’t. They sold the same product, probably the same quality, but human nature says “Busy? It must be better. Why would anyone line up then?”
Start with these five and I’ll have another 5 for you next week!
