10 Ways to Develop a Magnetic Sales Personality – Part II

in Cathy's Blog

Last week we posed the question why the other sales guy with the same tools, products and support seemed to ‘attract’ all the clients.

A lucky few are born with the natural ability (aka ‘charisma’) that makes people want to buy whatever it is they’re selling.

So what about the rest of us?

Is there hope for us?

Absolutely!

Here are the next five of ten things that you can do to develop this skill.

People are attracted to people they believe are experts in their fields.  Practice, research, training and education will expand your existing knowledge so that you become that ‘Go To’ person. Write articles and books, give talks or demonstrations that showcase your expertise to others, including potential customers.

People are attracted to people who keep their word. It’s all about being honest and ethical. Your website says one thing and you say another. The pictures are awesome in your brochure but not so much in the showroom. Delivery is in 10 days but you forgot to put the word ‘business’ in front of the number ten. So when you make a promise, do exactly what you promised, by the deadline you promised – or sooner.

People are attracted to people who are flexible and accommodating. Companies and products that make their lives easier and save them time are who they will do business with. People hate it when you waste their time even though they are unconcerned about wasting yours.

People are attracted to people who are physically attractive. No, not Hollywood or photoshop attractive! We’re talking well-groomed, a sense of style – someone who takes pride in their appearance. Pay attention to your personal hygiene. (Umm, the lettuce. In your teeth?)

People are attracted to people who believe in ‘Givers Gain’. It’s the little extras in the way of information and advice that they know you have their best interests at heart. And no, you’re not charging for it. I’m not telling you to give away the store. Adopting a “How can I be of service?” attitude goes a long, long way.

BONUS TIP:

People are attracted to people who are tactful. Never discuss another customer with a another customer – and NEVER discuss how much money you make. Why? If it’s less than what she makes, she may think you are not successful; if it’s more, she may feel you are charging too much for your services.

Fairly straightforward and simple don’t you think?
