Anything New With You?
Happy New Year!
Happy Valentine’s Day! Happy Easter! Happy Canada Day! Merry Christmas! TGIF! Woohoo it’s Monday!
Well, ok, maybe not that last one so much …
But no matter what time of year it is, it’s always a good idea to regularly update (or delete!) your online accounts and profiles.
With technology so ingrained into our daily lives, we can have hundreds of online profiles. Crazy, isn’t it? Every time you create an account – for the library, your email provider, the pizza joint -for access from your phone or computer, you’ve created a profile that is searchable online.
If you haven’t got an app that keeps track of all your accounts and passwords – because you have different passwords don’t you? – it might be worth your while to get one. If you’re old school, you might have an excel spreadsheet with the info. No matter, go through those accounts and delete the ones that you are no longer using because not all accounts are deleted if they go dormant.
Social Media Profiles: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.
If you’re in business, have a career or are looking for one, make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date with your latest skills, experience, contacts, endorsements AND a current photo. If you use Twitter or Facebook to connect with your customers, take some time to review your bio and profile description. In general, you want to make sure that all your digital calling cards are accurate, up-to-date, compelling, and loaded with your important keywords.
People go to their phones first when they’re looking for something or someone. Make sure they get the right info to make that connection!
TIP: For any account that you make payments to for services provided and most likely have your credit card saved, contains personal or sensitive information about you, your family, your clients. – they require a robust/complex password. Not sure if you can remember a 16 digit password? Try using the first letter of every word in a the opening line of your favourite song or poem. Add a number and a symbol and voila! You’ve got a strong password!
